EVOLVE SECURITY HOSTS GIRL SCOUTS GENCYBER CYBERSECURITY CAMP
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (July 29, 2019) – The Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana(GSGCNWI) has partnered with Evolve Security and 1871 to organize a National Security Agency (NSA) GenCyber summer camp that depicts cybersecurity as a rewarding, challenging, interesting and fun career field to girls (12-16 years of age). The primary objective is to inspire teenage girls to consider and pursue careers in cybersecurity.
Twenty-five Girl Scouts, with little or no prior knowledge of cybersecurity will spend five days next Monday through Friday, working on challenging hands-on curriculum to learn about cybersecurity attacks, hardware and software basics, data privacy, ethics, social engineering, hacking,elementary programming, safe online behavior, entrepreneurship and penetration testing. The typical daily schedule will involve classroom instruction on cybersecurity concepts, followed by hands-on demonstrations, group exercises,and presentations. Each participant will shadow a female technology entrepreneur on Thursday, August 8th to learn about entrepreneurship opportunities in the STEM field.
Each Girl Scout participant will earn a cybersecurity patch at the completion of the program, which will be applied towards achieving the requirements of the recently released Girl Scouts of USA’s cybersecurity badge.

The week long GenCyber camp will commence on Monday, August 5th at 9:00 AM at 1871 in the Merchandise Mart (222 W. Merchandise Mart Plaza,#1212, Chicago, IL 60654). The event is open to the media.
