Botnet

What Is Botnet?

A botnet is a network of computers or other internet-connected devices that have been infected with malicious software (malware) and are controlled as a group without the knowledge of their owners. Botnets are used to carry out a variety of malicious activities, such as sending spam, launching distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, stealing data, and spreading malware. Botnets are typically created by infecting computers with malware that allows the attacker to gain control of the device and add it to the botnet. The attacker then uses the botnet to carry out malicious activities.

Description

A botnet is a network of computers or other internet-connected devices that have been infected with malicious software and are controlled as a group without the knowledge of their owners.

Usage and Examples

Botnets are used to carry out a variety of malicious activities, such as sending spam, launching distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, stealing data, and spreading malware. Botnets are typically created by infecting computers with malware that allows the attacker to gain control of the device and add it to the botnet. For example, a botnet might be used to send out millions of spam emails in a short period of time, or to launch a DDoS attack on a website or server. Botnets can also be used to steal data, such as passwords or credit card numbers, or to spread malware to other computers.
